Come Thursday evening next week the first formal exhibition at 107 Projects at Redfern will be underway. The gallery, called simply 107, will be hosting Why White, a show which is aimed at going against the grain of the typical white walls we usually see in a gallery space. These walls are not white! The concept is designed to challenge us.
"Did you know that white walls in a gallery are a phenomena of Modernism - attempting to take the viewer into a realm of abstraction/distinction from everyday life... before that gallery wall covering/colouring reflected the wealth of their owners. White is also the colour of the virtual background... the nothingness proposed by the internet within which things float. 107 intends to bring art back into the everyday life of people."
